Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 11, 2026

This policy explains what information Books of the Day (booksoftheday.com) collects when you visit, how it is used, and the choices you have. We do not ask you to create an account and we do not sell your personal information.

Who we are

Books of the Day is run from the Cayman Islands and is the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at hello@booksoftheday.com.

Information we collect

  • Usage data. Pages you visit, links you click, the referring site, your approximate location (country or city), device and browser type. This is collected by the analytics tools described below.
  • Information you send us. If you email us, we keep your message and email address to reply to you.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect usage data. You can learn how Google uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. Google Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months.

We also use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to measure traffic and page performance. These tools do not use cookies and do not identify individual visitors.

Advertising

We may show ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites.

You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalized ads are shown.

Your consent choices

In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google Analytics and advertising cookies stay off until you agree in the consent message shown on your first visit. You can change your choice at any time with the "Privacy choices" link at the bottom of every page. Where US state privacy laws apply, the same message lets you opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising.

Why we use your data

We use analytics and advertising cookies on the basis of your consent where the law requires it, and otherwise on the basis of our legitimate interest in running, measuring and funding the site. We use the emails you send us to answer them, also a legitimate interest, and keep them for up to two years.

International transfers

Our hosting (Vercel), database (Supabase) and analytics and advertising partners (Google) process data in the United States and other countries. Where data from the EEA or UK is transferred, these providers rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Embedded videos and posts

Some book pages show reviews from YouTube, Instagram or TikTok. YouTube videos load from youtube-nocookie.com only after you press play. Instagram and TikTok posts are loaded from those services, which may set their own cookies and receive your IP address. Their own privacy policies apply to that data.

We use YouTube API Services to find video reviews of books. By watching those videos you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's use of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy. We store only public video details (title, channel, view count) and refresh or delete them at least every 30 days.

Affiliate links

Some links go to online bookstores such as Amazon. When you click them, the store may set its own cookies to record that you came from our site. Those stores' own privacy policies apply once you leave our site. See our affiliate disclosure.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you, or to object to how it is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. To make a request, email us at hello@booksoftheday.com. We answer within 30 days.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Cayman Islands Ombudsman (ombudsman.ky) or to the data protection authority where you live.

Children

Our site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top of the page shows when it last changed.
